Saint FreeUndelete

This little baby saved my tush today. For some reason, every single photo I copied today to a shared network folder vanished into thin air. It didn't help matters when I chose the Safe Delete option - to delete the pics as soon as they were transferred. Note to self: Do not safe delete before you verify that the files were indeed safely copied over.

When I discovered that the pics were missing, the hunt for a free undelete program began. The food photo shoot project took a lot of effort and coordination and it was near impossible to re-enact the whole thing again. Thanks to my best online friend Google, I came across FreeUndelete. Made the program scan my empty SD card and the rest, they say is history. Every single pic was retrieved in its entirety. Hallelujah!!!

For more reviews of this really cool (and free!) proggie, head here.

And now, I'm gonna head back home for some much-needed me time. Toodle-doo!

Gadget for the Lost

This article is funny - it's a recommendation of gadgets for the main characters in LOST.

The most practical gadget would have to be that personal translator for Jin, who doesn't talk much in the show because he couldn't converse in English. Or maybe that Kiss-O-Meter to keep Jack's breath in check. The most guffaw-inducing 'gadget' for me is that audio book for Sawyer. Needless to say, fans of the show would appreciate this.

Some of my friends would say that I need that Pocket GPS that Sayid was recommended.

I still remember that horrified look on SC's face when we were driving around one day and I confessed that I had no idea how to get to our destination. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. She was looking so peaceful and at rest with the world before that announcement.

"Ariel Coolcat!" she bellowed. "Don't tell me we are LOST???!"

She never used my full name before. So I guess, she must be really really frazzled. Thus, I didn't have the heart to tell her until much later that I'm directionally-challenged especially when it comes to driving to not-so-familiar places. But somehow or the other, I always do arrive at my destination - except for that time when I can see the building but couldn't find any way to actually reach it.

"It isn't so bad being lost sometimes," I assured her. And it's true. It helps knowing that Someone is watching and guiding me and won't let me meander in LOST mode forever.

"I don't care," says SC. "I'm going to get you a compass-shaped cake for your next birthday."

That's one yummy kinda gadget for this perennially LOST person alright.

What Happened to Gmail??

image

Is it just my browser or has someone defamed Gmail's website?

My guess is, it's just my Firefox - the router (or is that a tiny photo printer??) image is still here even after a few hits on the reload button. The Gmail logo appears fine in IE though. What on earth happened?

I think I can hear the Twilight Zone song coming up.

gulp

Updates (14 June) : I still have that printer/router thingy on my Gmail. But ok, I think my Firefox is displaying this image url instead of the proper one. All that's different is an 's' in the http. Why lar like that?

Updates (15 June): It's ok now. Both images are the correct Logo. Makes me wonder if the Gmail folks are actually reading this... Hmmmm.

My Dream Kitchen

Read this article today and thought, "Man, this is my dream kitchen!" No longer do I need to flounder when I need to check on a new recipe, reply to an urgent mail or blog comment, upload pics of me posing cooking, get the latest news, listen to songs - I'd be able to do all these with the grace of a kitchen diva while waiting for the spaghetti to boil.

A. CPU
B. Monitor
C. Keyboard & Mouse
D. Bluetooth Headset - where you can listen to music as you cook/bake or chat via Skype!

Now is this fantastic or what? Imagine doing all these cool things in the comfort of your kitchen. Oh ya, and cooking, too of course.

I Hit 1Gb Today

When Gmail first offered 1Gb of free e-mail space, their tag line was something like this - 'You never need to delete another mail again!' In that day and age where Yahoo!'s 10Mb and Hotmail's pathetic 2Mb of email space reigned, 1Gb was really the nirvana of all free web-based emails.

I've got my first Gmail account on 21st June 2004. And today on 21st April 2006, I reached that enigmatic 1Gb of space. It took me nearly two years, but I finally debunked the myth of that 1Gb is all you'd ever need.

But wait. Gmail has been increasing their space allocation bit by bit every day. To date, I have 2.716Gb of mail space, which means that with my current 1Gb worth of mails, I'm only utilizing 37% of my total mail space. I still don't have to delete any mails - hurrah!!!

I used to fret over running out of email space at Yahoo and heed the warnings sent for me to clear out my mails. Being a sentimental person doesn't help. Which of these precious emails should I delete? With Gmail, that is a thing of the past. I've been fret-free for almost two years now. No more frown lines anymore, people.

The people at Gmail are really smart. They know that free space, like money, is never enough. Bless their hearts!

Coincidentally, this post is labelled post #999. That's one more post before I hit the 1Gb mark on my webby. Imagine that, 1000 entries thus far folks. Wow!!
