Once upon a time, in the green green plains of KL Bird Park, lived two male peacocks. Peacock A and B. They were very good friends. But A couldn't help but notice B getting more and more depressed as the days go by. So one day, he queried his good pal.
"Eh, dude. Why so down? They've just imported fresh new chicks into the park. Exotic birds, man! From South America lar, Japan lar. Even Russia oso got. What's up with you lar?"
B shook his blue head sadly, "That's exactly why I'm depressed. All those chicks are coming in by the droves but they are so not falling for me no matter how much I preen. Look, I'm shedding my feathers at an alarming rate. I'm losing my attraction, my X factor. I'm balding, man!!!"
A felt terribly sad upon hearing his friend's woes. He looked at his own feathers - all still there, still glorious and very useful in catching that cute Russian peahen's eye. And he realised that by being there, he wasn't going to improve B's situation. So he decided to go quietly into hiding for about a week. With him out of the picture, surely B would have more opportunities to catch someone's eye.
The Handsome Peacock A
And so, A flew to some distance away. One week wasn't too much of a sacrifice. And he was confident that the Russian babe will be waiting for him. She only digs dudes who speak her language and that one week was ample time for him to enrol in that Russian For Dumb Birds course and learn some swanky pick up lines. Yeah, baby! Or rather,
With A mysteriously out of the way, Peacock B did his best. He sucked in and flexed his chest muscles. And he preened with all his might. Click on the picture below to see the outcome of his endeavors.
Poor Peacock B!
~ The End ~
The truth behind bald peacocks is not as sad as was depicted above. ALL male peacocks shed their colorful feathers after mating season ends. They just don't all shed at the same time. When mating season comes round again, the tail will grow back into its full glory. Source:
