A continuation from Part 1 and Part 2.
Jayne stuck out her tongue in the most barbaric manner at her phone. Matt can presume all he like but she hadn't consented to be his date.
"Errr... hope you are not doing that to some obscene caller ar," a very dear voice broke through her ire.
She looked up hurriedly and her mouth was transformed into a bright sunshiny smile. Aaah, Dean always had that effect on her. Unlike that very horrible Matt.
"You are just the person I wanted to see!" she said cheerfully and patted the empty seat next to her in the cafeteria. He settled down and returned her grin with an equally chirpy one. "Want to be my date for the annual ball or not?"
He looked at her in a puzzled manner, "Eh, I thought you already have a date."
She blinked in amazement, "I do?"
"Yalar, Matt Phang. He was just telling me and a couple of guys last week that you two are going to the ball together."
She gasped in horror for the second time that day. "Was that why you didn't ... didn't ask...? Oh!" If Matt were to stand right in front of her, she would have cheerfully throttle him that very instant. The very gall of the presumptuous man! She could kill him for ruining her one chance of letting Dean know that she liked him.
"Hey, are you ok?" Dean looked at her in concern and touched her shoulder gently. Her shoulder tingled at his touch. Despite the layers of cardigan and t-shirt that encased it. It had always been like that with Dean. Every chance touch sizzled to the high heavens. It was hard for her not to imagine how would it feel like to be able to embrace him. She'd probably never be able to embrace him now. All because of dratted Matt's doing. Would she be able to apply some damage control though?
"Matt was just joking around as usual. I haven't said yes to him. But I'm asking you now. Would you be my date for the ball?"
He looked at her deeply, his eyes troubled for a moment and then immediately hooded with decisiveness. "I'm sorry, I've already planned to ask someone else to go with me."
She choked the bile that suddenly formed in her throat. "Who?"
"You probably wouldn't know her. Look, I... I gotta go. I'll catch you around some other time lor."
And he was gone. Unknowingly, he took a little bit of her heart with him.
