A Most Wonderful Lunch Partner

Both of us looked at each other with a mischievous glint in our eyes.

"I feel like Bah Kut Teh (stewed pork ribs) today," he announced.

"Yaay, me too!" I grinned widely. We felt rather like Bonnie & Clyde, eating something that's sinfully tasty but bad for our health.

And bah kut teh for lunch it was. There I sat while he got to work preparing the tea, washing the tiny clay cups and cutlery with the boiled water. I never realised it but for all his gruff ways, he's a real man at heart - not believing in letting girls do the rough and tough stuff and always taking the brunt of heavy duty stuff upon his broad and brawny shoulders. Not letting me lift that kettle of hot water near our table even.

He loved doing things for me, making sure I had enough rice, gravy and meat. We drank the heavenly tea - full-bodied and which left a very pleasant after-taste in our tongues. We commented about how nice the tea was. What we liked most about Bah Kut Teh. Which stalls were the best. And other casual stuff - just like friends. I could never have imagined this happening in my lifetime, but I was really having the time of my life. I could not have wished for a better lunch partner. After all, he's dark, handsome and very maaan :-P

"Shall we go and meet your mom and brother at the other economy rice shop?" he asked after he settled the bill.

"Yes, dad. Let's," I said and we walked out of the shop feeling satisfied in our stomachs and our souls.
