Shallow & Prejudiced

image

Sneak peek of what's to come...

Watched Pride & Prejudice yesterday, which explains the title above. Mark Darcy was a tad too aloof and stiff upper-lipped for my liking but hey, he's got a great heart and would go to the ends of the earth for the heroine. That's so darn attractive, if you ask me. I say bring on them cute, kind aloof guys :-D

Mark Darcy discriminated folks based on their breeding and background. Elizabeth Bennet discriminated him for his discriminating behavior. And we, the people involved in the music video production discriminate people based on their looks. Prejudice is all around. I kid you not. Acting talent, while helpful, is heavily overshadowed by how gorgeous our auditionees are.

"You know, this project is making us to be very shallow people - discriminating based on looks alone," I commented to Chris, the producer recently. I felt a bit guilty lar, having been brought up to not judge a book by its cover and all.

"It doesn't matter," he said. "It's a video. It's meant to be shallow. It's not like we're gonna be marrying any of these people. Discriminate away!"

Ok, Chris. You're the boss. This is the one time where I'm actually asked to be shallow and not feel guilty about it.

I sense lots of eye candy coming my way.

Heh heh heh.

*The formal language makes the whole movie stiff. Maybe people were stiff in those days, but... I still prefer my imagination :-P It was a good effort, though. And I want to know why the only normal-looking guy was Mr Collins (except that he was short). Bingley had such ridiculous hair! :-D

*Haha, yeah the language is stiff, which is why I can never finish reading Jane Austen's books. But I love movies and books that are based on her stories. Her stories are so wonderfully and intricately woven.

Mr. Collins normal?? He gave me the creeps in that movie bcos of his mannerisms wor :-P But yeah, Bingley's hair is more of a bird's nest than my Jeremy Clarkson :-D

*Mr Collins & Mrs Bennet were both excellently portrayed. Mrs Bennet was just as annoying and shallow as she is in the books! Haiyo I just wanted to whack her in the head!!

*I believe that everybody's good at something... and some born naturally good looking, black, white, yellow, no one knows.. but a child that would grown to bring tears to laughter.. .. ooopss.. side tracked..

We are born with the ability to judge, and we can "discriminate" between what's good and what's bad right? So I think for the purpose of the music video, you'd have to choose on something that would help the music video to sell right?

ah.. it's just me rambling after a heavy lunch with CC. :-P

*Irene, haven't read the book so can't comment much on the character's potrayal. But yeah, Mrs Bennet is darn irritating. I love Jane in the movie - she's so beautiful, dignified and together, you know?

Paul, I ate more than I should at Paandi's. Darn sleepy lar.

*Yes, Jane was all that and more! In the book, she's the quiet and gentle and sensible one, the one who stays in the background and always does what is expected of her. Elizabeth is the spitfire who's always geting into trouble :-D

I'm afraid I identify more with Elizabeth than with Jane!! Oh dear :-P

*Haha, did a test and it revealed that I had Elizabeth Bennet's characteristics. Which is in a way true, because I'm such a happy mess :-P It didn't have Jane in the list of possible candidates though.
