During lunch yesterday, I walked past a part of town and noticed something different. A new Banana Leaf Rice restaurant has now replaced the first church I ever attended. A strong wave of nostalgia hit me and I fell into a sombre mood.
While I did not have many fond memories in that church, the place has historical significance for me. It was the place where I learned all those cute Sunday school songs, first knew about Jesus and learned how to pray and read the Bible.
And now, it's all gone. The patrons who visit there now go to fill their need for physical food, rather than spiritual nourishment and enlightenment. I heard that they have moved to Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Whatever the reason behind the move is, I hope they are doing fine.
I get nostalgic whenever I witness things like these. The stall where I had my first date with TLOML went bankcrupt before our first anniversary. Now it's replaced by some stationery shop. A reminder that there are no guarantees in life. Just like how shops change management within the flicker of an eye, a church that has been there for decades can uproot and move on somewhere else without much of a notice.
Maybe it's wrong to take some sort of security on the things that I assumed would be a constant fixture in my life. But that's just me. Nostalgic to a T. And life is such that one has to constantly adjust to changes, adapt and move on.
Farewell, EA Gospel Hall. I pray that your move is a most fruitful and blessed one.
