On our last day, we decided to finally pay a visit to the beach within walking distance to our hotel. Our hotel is not located at the beach front and we have had a very busy time during our stay that we haven't even set foot on Patong beach, even though we stayed at Patong itself. Note to self: next time, stay nearer to the beach.

Rina looks cutely relunctant to leave the beach, but it looked like it would rain soon. Which it did.
We spent the last few hours shopping for a swimwear for me and spending our last Thai bahts. We even made a documentary on that very useful topic - how to spend your remaining Thai Bahts when you are leaving the country. Enjoy...
Bye bye Phuket. Hope to see you again someday soon...

Phuket shrouded by the clouds. We were airborne, wheee!
Here are a few tips for those of you planning to make a trip to Phuket:
Stay for at least 5 days 4 nights. We wished that we had stayed longer than our 3 days 2 nights so that we could take the canoe ride into the caves, visit James Bond island and see the FantaSea show (a big Las Vegas + Disney-like show). We also wished we had more time to linger around the nearby beaches.
Change most of your money in your home country. The cost of changing your currency in Phuket is higher, and you get less than what your money's worth back home.
It's safe to eat at the side stalls. Iced water is also safe to drink (for Malaysians). We did not contract diarrhea throughout our stay there.
Bargain like crazy, for at least 50% of discount when you buy stuff along the beach. Things are marked up very highly there.
It is safe to walk around the streets of Phuket at night, but you have to be strong to resist the constant calls to visit dubious places.
Stay nearer to the beach front!!!
All in all, it was enjoyable and we experienced quite a major culture shock at some of the things we saw. Some of which I think is not appropriate to document on a PG-13 blog. Anyways, bear in mind that Phuket is catered for the Western tourists and most goods and services are priced accordingly. As such, we found that shopping is better done in places like Haadyai.
As for the beach, we found that Malaysia has a lot to offer as well - our coral reefs are beautiful and we've got great beaches and stuff. The only thing different between Phuket and Malaysia is the openness of the society in terms of adult entertainment. We're not prudes but we think that after all that's said and done, there's really no place like home.
by the way, how much does the cam cost? I thought of buying one for myself sometime by the end of this year. So, I'm keeping an eye on good bargains and models.
Glad to be of service, Coffee I'm not sure about the actual price of my cam right now but it should be around RM1.2 - 1.4k. They have newer models out now - Ixus 50 and 55 - same functionality but higher Megapixels and for the 55, I heard that they have better lenses.
I'm not looking at anything too fancy though...1.2, 1.5k...ermmm...I'm not so sure about that cos I have a budget of 500 to 700 to play with. But, that's good infos cos at least I know their features and stuffs. Thanks, Ariel!
