Live Each Day

She dreaded the day that they have to be parted.

And yet, the parting will signify something good, something better for her friend. She's happy for her friend - yes, she is. Thrilled for her friend who deserves the very best. But with the happiness comes pain. The realisation that there will be nothing that can quite fill the hole carved out so specially, so uniquely by that person. The knowledge that although they will try to keep in touch, things will probably never be the same again.

It dawned upon her very recently. And upon her friend - the one who brought up the topic in the first place. She brushed it aside. Even proferred a joke or two to prevent the easy and close-knitted camaraderie from being threatened by gloomy clouds.

What does one do when heavy thoughts assail? She wallows in it for a while. Let the melancholia seep in a little. And then she decides to take each day as it comes. To cross the bridge when they come to it. To spend whatever time and opportunity that she has with her dear friend. To carve out memories that time and distance cannot erase.

This day she will choose to laugh, live, and love.
