Teasing

Today, during a very very serious departmental meeting where we discussing databases and such, AN brought up the topic of sql injections.

"We have to be very careful of it," he said.

"I agree," Xan, my bro said.

"What's sql injection??" MY (the youngest of us all) asked.

"It comes in liquid form. Once injected into your body, you will become suddenly well-versed with SQL statements," Xan replied seriously.

"Yeah, didn't you know? You can get it easily at Low Yat plaza. Cheap cheap only." AN chipped in.

MY turned to look at the both of them, not knowing whether to believe them or not, while I had collasped in a bunch of helpless giggles.

Poor MY. Being the youngest and having an ultra chirpy nature, she has been the target of many a teasing. But then again, teasing in the positive sense of the word is a sign of friendship and affection.

According to this website, when teasing is done between lovers, friends, or parents and children, partners in play invariably wind up liking each other more.

Ahhh so...

This is very true when I think about Hokkien-speaking people. Friend or foe, we invariably tease each other with almost every sentence. If there is no good-natured teasing going on, then the two people must not be friends. Teasing is a way of bonding, and the teasee knows that despite the flaws in the person that teaser is exaggerating, the teasee is loved anyway - despite their quirks or shortcomings. "-- and maybe even more for it" says that website.

And looking at the happy way MY is laughing together with her teasers, I think she knows she is loved and accepted even if she is the baby in our team.

*I think it does. But side effects include talking like a nerd wor :-P

Heh, seriously:

SQL - Structured Query Language
SQL injection - is a method attackers use to inject malicious SQL statements into a SQL database query that allows them to execute commands on the system nefariously.

*Hrmm... what exactly is it that you do at work?

*Wat, you didn't know that I'm a nerdette?
#7 coolcat (Homepage) on 2005-10-05 23:15 (Reply)
*Oh no, one can - with the utmost certainty - come to that conclusion within the first 5 minutes of meeting you... ;-)

*Haha.

Yeah right :-P

*No, really!

My first thought was, "Hrmm... bookworm." followed by, "Go for the eyes Boo! The eyesssss!" and finally a stream of random mental images of Mr Snuffleupagus chasing me across the Kalahari desert...

(Just you wait Aloysius, my day will come! *insane cackle*)

*Wat can I say? It takes one bookworm/nerd to detect another.

Awwww... you grew up on Sesame Street, too? Honestly, I think Barney is overrated.

*Barney must die.

*I don't really liked being teased; a lot of times I can't tell whether I'm being teased or not, and when I find out that I am being teased, it makes me feel dumb for being so gullible and credulous :-(

*Awww, chin up Irene!

I for one agree that teasing is nothing more than a sign of affection and comfort with another's presence.

Strange, i know. But then again thats humanity for ya...

So you can't tell if you're being teased, so what? Heck they probably love you all the more for it! :-)
#15 Anonymous on 2005-10-06 15:40 (Reply)
*Ok, I shall not tease you, Irene. Not too much anyway. And I'll hug you after that so that you know that I still love ya ;-)

*Irene is a much better sport than she lets on...;-) (Great sense of humor!)

*Hehe thanks Pat! And Ariel -- I always welcome hugs ;-)

Aww Mark, you're too kind! :-D

*I guess I landed up here by a stroke of defining fate, and I see that you do indeed have streaks of nerdettism in you.

Was good meeting you on that cold, gloomy and rainy morning at 4 a.m. Interesting to find out more about you and the mutual people we know.

"Strangers in the night" plays overhead...

Fade to black.

*LX, hahah, you make it sound soooo mysterious and intriguing. A dark, stormy dawn it was, too :-) Yea, great to have met you. Hope to know you more in days to come.
