Independence

For the benefit of non-Malay speakers/readers, that was my title for yesterday's Malay blog entry. I'm not sure if I should translate it since I have no idea how many of you do not understand that entry, saved for Mark, the sweetie, of course. I'll probably just email a summary of it to him.

Blogging in BM for the first time is kinda like revisiting my school days. I loved reading the Five Find-Outers and Dog, as well as the Three Investigators so much that I would read both the English and Malay versions of the books. Some Malay novels were really good, too and I would re-read them to death. So Emma was right - my level of comfort in writing in Malay is influenced by my bookwormish tendencies.

I should also probably say that my first 'boyfriend' was a Malay kid. We became close buddies during our first day at kindy and shared our toys and food with each other. Of course at that age then, we had no concept of what chemistry was. We just knew that we clicked and that was good enough for us. When he had to quit kindy earlier than me, we were crushed. I still remember the tears streaming from my eyes as he was leaving. I grabbed my brand new eraser and dashed towards him and slipped it into his bag. And that was the last time I ever saw him.

At the tender age of 5, we barely knew how to write our alphabets. So it was not possible for us to exchange home addresses nor phone numbers. Sad, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Anyway, that was that and I think that must have scarred me for life. Maybe that's why I am so bad at saying goodbyes now.

There Will Be Friends There, Too
"We're really gonna miss you," declared one of my lunch buddies. "Awww, so nice of you to say that," I was delighted to hear that I'll be missed. "Yeah, who else will tell us interesting stories and amuse us during lunch?" he added. "Gee, nice to

*Aw, so thoughtful of you! I will check my email momentarily. I'm humbled when someone I haven't even actually met thinks to do something for me. Thank you!

I'm in the same boat with PauLOS about your story. It's really touching. It would be tough to actually see this happen because just reading your recollection stirs my heart.

*Yeah...as perspectives change, as priorities change, as circumstances alter, our past reintroduces itself at times and in ways that are often unexpected, sometimes unwelcome, but never without effect.

I find that now I look back at some things that I enjoyed and I wish they hadn't happened, while some things I hated I now see were building blocks in who I am.

Loves came and went, hard times and good times came hand-in-hand, but God's love stayed constant and everlasting.

(See you went and made me get all philosophical! :-) )

*No worries, Mark. Hope you enjoyed the summary :-) And yeah.. I teared a little while writing this entry, too. Funny, isn't it the things that you remember at different points of your life?

*You have the soul of a poet, Mark. Really. Truly.
