Three Birthdays and a Windmill

"Ariel, can you get a birthday cake for tonite?" Ruthie asked me in the morning.

"Sure, what flavour?"

"Choc is the safest. Try to get a small one."

"Ok."

Thus lunch hour saw me and my bro traipsing about Amcorp Mall, buying gifts for my three MAGer friends who are having their birthdays this month. Heh, I think Aug must have the most babies compared to every other month in the year. I wonder why leh.

Anyway, I recalled not having seen a single cake shop in all of Amcorp Mall before. But I just went to the lowest ground where the food court and cafes were located. And lo and behold, I saw a display of cakes right in front of Subway Cafe.

And omigosh, there were at least FIVE of the tiniest and cutest cakes I have ever seen. They looked as if they weighed less than 500g! It was as if God deliberately put those cute cakes at the right size just in front of me. It was like some kind of magic. I had difficulty choosing between Black Forest and American chocolate. Both looked so adorable! But remembering what Ruthie said, I dutifully chose American choc. And it tasted really really good. All for only RM20.90. You can see the pic of the cake in the photo of the birthday girls below.

I have to agree with James here - this candid shot looks great. I love it - it shows how young at heart the birthday girls are. Can you see the brown cake somewhere in the middle?

And after we were done with all that birthday shopping (getting everything I needed and nothing more!), we went to pay the parking coupon.
The machine accepted my card at first try...
We were already a little short on time. There were two others in front of us. The first guy had difficulties making the machine accept his card. I tried to help him but the machine kept on rejecting his coupon. So he left. The girl after him tried her luck but again, the machine acted up. So she left to look for another machine. I wondered briefly if I should abandon the machine and look for a working one. But in the end decided to try it out anyway.

The machine accepted my card without protest at first try.

Wah! God is good!

So my bro and I traipsed our merry way back to the office. With full stomachs and plastic bags.

After work, I headed to Windmill, Klang where the girls were already waiting. They were delighted with the gifts and ooohed and aaahed over the cute cake. The food and service was so-so only. But the waiters were friendly and nice enough to snap a group pic for us. They even volunteered to sing the birthday song but we declined nicely I had the set dinner of lamb and fish.

My dinner

We had great fun eating and chatting over the sizzling food. Man, I've been shovelling in good food and lots of it for the past few days since Sunday. Need to cut down in time for my turn to eat more free food next month. Hee!

Couldn't resist an individual shot. I can't decide whether this looks spooky or dreamy. Hmmmm..

*Re: the parking ticket machine -- the first two people may have parked in the open-air parking lot. Open-air parking in Amcorp is to be paid at exit. Covered parking is pre-paid at machines before locating your car and leaving the building :-) There is always plenty of confusion and lots of people try to use the machines to pay, only to end up extremely frustrated.

*Irene thanks for the info.. :-)

As for the last picture.. not spooky.. because you're smiling.. but it does make you look like you're in a dreamscape.. or makes you look like a little gal :-).. a very nice picture.. :-)

*Thanks, Irene. Last time they used tokens for the basement parking, so there was no confusion for those who park out in the open. Haiyo, they should put a sign at the machines to help the patrons out lar.

Paul, on your comments abt the Aug babies - LOL!!!

Mark, any samples of mood pictures? The next time I go to a candlelit restaurant, I'll try to pose as per your suggestion and see how it turns out :-P

*Aw, that is a nice shot of the birthday girls and they look so blessed! Neat little cake too.

The lamb and fish meal? drool

Love the last picture! If you ever get the chance to recreate that shot (Mark says-knowing that Ariel loves taking pictures) tilt your head to your right, smile very slightly, and crop it from the top of the containers on up. It'll be a killer! (I can't help it. I love "mood" pictures!)

*You'd probably make Mark's heart skip a beat or 2. :-P grin

After reassessing your picture.. the "Keluar" or "Exit" sign above your head looks a bit .. out of place..makes it seem like there a "thought bubble" over your head.. indicating "Let's get out of here" ha ha ha.. try to "photoshop" it out of the picture.. it'll make for a lovely avatar for you.. :-)

*"You'd probably make Mark's heart skip a beat or 2. :-P *grin*"

(Maybe 3?)

For me, mood pictures are those pictures that make you stop and think. You can't pin them down to one mood because they keep changing depending on your own mood when you look at them. Experiments with color, shadow, contrast... all that good stuff.

I keep wondering what a great shot it would be to snap a picture of a bird of prey, an eagle or large hawk, swooping down directly at the camera on a sunny day.

Another picture that's been done a couple of times but always gets me is the person cryign in the rain without an umbrella. It leaves you wondering "Is that person crying or just really close to crying?" because you can't tell since there's rain washing down their face.

There was a scene like that in the old series "Moonlighting" with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd. It was after several seasons of teasing them getting involved and when he finally decided to tell her that he loved her and went to her house, she was there with another man.

He stood outside in the rain and his grief was obvious, but since he was the macho kind of guy you were left wondering if he was really crying.

Rain makes for great pictures!

I have some that I've taken but I'll have to upload them.

*Ju - Where you wanna go, dude? Windmill ka? Food so-so only wor. Didn't see no cute waitresses there summore... heheh.

Mark - Wow, thanks for the helpful and very interesting explanation on mood pictures. Shall explore that soon - possibly with rain and all... whooo! Do upload those pics soon... after you are back from the library and all ;-)

*MLR.. reminds me of the oldies song...

"I'll do my crying the rain"...

Yeah.. Bruce Willis has this frown, that makes you think he's crying, but he's not.. yet.. with rain.. you'd think that he was... he's got that kinda face..

Awaiting for picture inputs from ya.. :-P

*"after you are back from the library and all ;)"

Ha Ha! How did you know? ;-)

""I'll do my crying the rain"... "

PaulOS, I dunno that one. Who's the singer?

#15 MarkLaRoi (Homepage) on 2005-08-19 13:19 (Reply)
*Mark, I seem to have a sixth sense about all things library :-P

'Crying in the Rain' - Aha sings that. Everly Bros were the original singers. Love that song!
#16 Anonymous on 2005-08-19 13:27 (Reply)
*Aha...Oh yeah, "Take on Me"! I liked that. As far as the Everly Bros. go, my favorite is "You've lost that loving feeling", even though I like Hall and Oates remake better.

Speaking of rain, one of my favorites is "In the Rain" by Keith Sweat. Then there's "Purple Rain" by Prince, "Can you stand the rain" by New Edition, "Have you ever seen the rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "I love a rainy night" by Eddie Rabbit...
(OK this is getting out of hand.) :-)
