A Tragic but True Story

Featuring:

Carlos - the sleek and shiny Malaysian cockroach
Mrs. Tan - a beautiful woman, the mother of Adelle

It was a cold and stormy night.

Carlos, the cockroach was experiencing the most exciting time of his life. He had just been swept into drain together with the rain water. After long minutes of struggling for his life, he managed to latch on to a leaf that was floating in the drain with him. He crawled wearily onboard the dried-up leaf but he could not even take a breather. He had to balance and hang on for dear life as the makeshift boat bobbed up and down on the rough waters. He lost count of how long he had been hanging on to the leaf. All he knew was that his tired legs were aching like never before and he didn't know how much longer they can hold on.

Suddenly, the leaf docked unto dry land. Carlos could have wept for joy! He slowly crawled to the cement walkway, trying to get his bearings right. All he wanted was his warm, cosy nest of old newspapers and rags. It was the least he deserved after all he had been through. He started dreaming about the delicious crumbs he stowed away from the house party yesterday when...

"Whack!!!," went Mrs. Tan's broom.

And that was the end of poor Carlos.

Mrs. Tan had spotted the pesky cockroach from the start and hoped that the swirling drain water would have drowned him so that she would be spared from the distasteful task. To her amazement, the plucky Carlos survived all the odds... but he couldn't escape from her broom.

So, if you ever think you had a bad day, think of Carlos ;-)

This true story was narrated with gusto by Adelle Tan during a dark and stormy night in our cell group meeting. She's going to further her studies in Aussieland next year and we shall miss her sorely :-(
