There's Nothing Like Home

I came back and saw my mom standing by the dining table. I wanted to sneak a hug but spotted a hot kettle in her hand. So, I just settled for a simple, "Hey, I missed you yesterday."

She turned back and gave me a brilliant smile, "Really? Wait..." She put the kettle back to its place and gave me a hug. "I'm glad you said that. You know, Papa thought that you preferred staying at your 'second' parents house and wondered if their house is more comfy than ours. He was wondering if you like spending time with them more than with us."

"Aiyo, no lah, mom. There's nothing like home," I said loyally. "And I do miss you lots."

It warmed my heart to see her face brightening up even more to that.

Not being one to miss out, my brother tried to weasel some love statements from mom and me, "Huh, you miss only mom? What about me?!"

Ah, it's good to be home...

*My family doesn't hug :-( And doesn't do all this emotional stuff (except for my mom, who's either turning more emotional nowadays or getting less uptight than she used to be). I have never missed home, or my parents -- not even when I first came to KL years ago. What is wrong with me?

*When I first went to Australia, I didn't miss home either. It was only after the ice between my mom and I melted that I started to treasure and value her friendship, support and love. That happened only in the recent years though.

But I think that you are normal in the sense that not many people miss their moms or homes.

*There is always nothing like home :-) When I first came to KL, I enjoyed my freedom totally but in recent years, I'm beginning to miss my home and family. I miss the chats I had with my mom, the jokes I share with my dad. Heck! I even miss my siblings
"manjaing" me.
