Thursday, May 13. 2004Legacy
We had a nice lunch at the Coffee Shack to celebrate Harjit's and Mike's birthdays. We also just had to have those sinfully delicious cheesecakes from Secret Recipe. That means I really need to get a good workout today. A reaaallly good one.
Lunch with Mike is normally filled with wholesome discussions. The topic of today was the impact parents have upon their children. The damages done on our primary relationships with them will somehow warp our relationships with others. We talked about how our relationships with God are affected by how our fathers treated us. I shared with them the bit on Sheila Walsh's encouraging note and marvelled anew at the way she responded to the awful situation. I bet her son will never forget how she could still praise God and believe in His goodness when all her hard work had gone to the drain. I bet years later, what she has sown in her son's life will continue to bear fruits as he passes on this spiritual legacy to his children and his children's children. After all, our purpose on earth is to leave behind a legacy to the people we have a relationship with. Whether the legacy is a good or bad one, the choice is ours. Like Sheila, let's take every opportunity to leave a wonderful moment for our children, our family, and our friends to reflect and gain strength and encouragement from. Surely, that is a life worth living. Wednesday, May 12. 2004Some Snippets
Bouncing Mails
Mails to Hotmail have been bouncing back. What's going on Micro$oft? My dear friends on Hotmail, perhaps it's time to migrate to the more reliable Yahoo! Mail which incidentally, also offers more space? And no, I don't work for Yahoo, am just frustrated with Hotmail. Note: Apparently, Hotmail has been blocking mails from my webhost since yesterday. Mails sent from Yahoo to Hotmail went through just fine. This is quite strange... Why is my host blacklisted? The Ever Encouraging Sheila Walsh Was especially blessed this morning when I read Sheila's Note. She talked about one of the worst things that could happen to a writer and how she took the opportunity to instill godly values into her son, give thanks to God and strengthened her faith in Him. What a great attitude, what a great inspiration to us all. Way to go, Sheila! Here's an excerpt from her weekly e-mail notes: "On our drive back we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and watched the sun begin to set over San Francisco. Beautiful! But when we got back to our room it was to discover that someone had broken into it while we were out and had stolen my computer. At first I couldn't believe it and thought that perhaps I had put it somewhere else but I knew I had left it on the desk as I had been working on it the previous evening. I have been working on my new book for next year and everything I have written so far is on that computer. I hadn't backed up any of the files. I always burn my work to disc but for some reason I hadn't done that this time. I am writing a book on faith and my computer is stolen; the irony is not lost on me. I am very aware at moments like these that Christian is watching me to see how I will respond. He was very upset and offered to sell his toys to get a new one. We sat down together and I said to him, "Christian, we either believe that God is in control of every situation and He is good or we don't. I believe He is. I don't like the fact that someone took something that was mine and I get to feel those feelings but underneath are the loving arms of God who promises to bring good out of everything if we love and trust him. That's exactly what I'm going to do." So, I am back to square one and word one with a deadline of July fast approaching!! I am very grateful to God for a deep peace in the midst of this frustration. I believe that He will help me to write a better book than what I had written so far." Last but not least... Oh, one more thing... Happy birthday, Mike!!! You certainly deserve a great one
