Yesterday a few of us from the mission team gathered together to get our anti-tetanus shots at Dr Ling's clinic. Now, I dislike injections, surgeries and the like. That is why I ain't no doctor. So, this clinic trip wasn't something I looked forward to but doing it as a team helps allay my fears somewhat. It is amazing what encouraging and humorous friends can do to make a scary affair into something fun.
And praise the Lord, I survived the jab... barely! It was the first time I got jabbed in front of a whole group of grinning adults and children. And what a fun experience it was, too! Our team leader's wife and children came to give moral support. I have a sneaky suspicion that the children probably wanted the fun of seeing us scream out in pain.
And boy, did we cry out and grimace in pain when we were jabbed! Actually, it was only a pretense to tease poor HK, a fellow team member, who also dislike being injected. Personally, I wasn't sure whether I was faking the cry or not because I really did feel it hurting my arm AFTER the needle was pulled out. Currently, my arm is numb...
Turns out that Dr Ling is a pediatrician at the Klinik Kanak-Kanak Little Ones (Little Ones' Clinic) and he treated us gently like babies. Initially, I thought it strange for adults to visit a pediatrician but now, I can see the benefits of it. For one, he has all these cute toys in his office which distracts one from fearing the injections.
Still, I'm very relieved that the ordeal is over!
