Shots at the Shah Alam Lake

Took my new toy out for a spin and learned quite a bit today. Lesson 1: What you see through your lens may not necessarily be what you get. There are just so many controls to master! I can foresee spending many happy hours tweaking around with it.

We went to the Shah Alam lake in the middle of the day today. Lighting's normally better towards the evening but due prior commitments, the only mutual free time we had was midday. It was darn hot but I managed to get a few good shots. Lesson 2: I discovered that it's important to get an SD card of a reputable brand. The free 1Gb SD Card that came along with my new camera is apparently lousy. A lot of shots were corrupted including some nice ones. It's a good thing that I was just taking photos today for fun and not to earn my bread. Man, what a precious lesson to learn.

Here are the survivors of my evil el-cheapo SD card and experimental attempts. Enjoy!

*Exactly. Broke my heart, too :-( The memories of the moment is the reason I got a dSLR. I want to capture those moments better. I wonder if I can swap my SD Card for a better one n just pay the difference.

*An idea would be to set your camera on Aperture Priority. I think some of the shots are slightly over-exposed.

Vagus, photos 1,5 & 7 were untouched. #6 was greyscaled. #2 & 3 - saturation was increased a little. #4 - increased the contrast.

*Great photos :-) That stinks about the memory card. You should try going to www.newegg.com You can get a good one GB SD card on there for only twenty bucks :-) That's where I got mine, but mine is Sony though lol.

*Aiyo so hati sakit about the SD card, man. I feel like killing people whenever I lose any kind of data. If it helps, the SD card that came with my Ixus 50 is "Silicon Power". Never had any probs with it.

I like the last two shots. Look forward to see more pics as you discover what your camera can do!! ;-)

*Thanks, Jon. Have reformatted it last nite. Hope it works.

One question: I have been using a 512MB SD card with my Ixus for more than a year now and I never had any problems with it and never reformatted it. Is it a 1Gb SD, Nikon or a dSLR thing?

*Hi CoolCat

Before giving up on your SD card format it in the camera. This is more reliable than a pc based format. I would do this every ten downloads or so to ensure any errors on the drive are removed.

Best regards

Jon
