Best of the Reds

image

I love red-coloured food. It is an indication of all things spice and everything nice. Heh, sounds awfully like what little girls are made of, eh?

Sometimes when I feel sick or have a bad appetite, the very smell of sambal (spicy chili condiment that is fried in oil) will awaken my tummy and get me salivating in no time at all.

Yeah, obviously the old wives' tales of eating bland and totally tasteless porridge when one is recovering from illness doesn't hold water. I say if sambal makes your appetite grow heartier, patients should be advised to eat it all the more. After all, a healthy appetite is an indication of a healthy body, no? :-P :P

Also, there's another old wives' tale about the hazards of eating hot and spicy food. They say that it leads to acne and the like. Well, I've been eating such foodies all my life and although my face is oily, it ain't pimply. Thus far I haven't seen any research efforts reporting that spicy food causes the face to breakout.

As a follow-up to my post on Laksa Shack, here are a couple more photos of red foodies to whet your appetite further. They come highly recommended. An incentive for folks overseas who have a penchant for reds to come back for a visit :-P

Best Prawn Mee in a Mall @ at Little Penang Cafe

Best Curry Laksa in a Bookshop @ at MPH Book Cafe (take note of the Taufu Pok!)

Disclaimer: Deep-fried food and food floating in oil and santan can be a health hazard. So, chilies may be healthy, but not when they are prepared in an unhealthy manner. Eat wisely.
