What's The Rationale Behind This?

People, can you tell me what's the rationale behind this? I honestly can't see how such a live telecast would benefit the public. Not only is it exploiting a minor, the idea of having all and sundry gawk in morbid curiosity at the sight of a vulnerable four-year old girl being operated upon doesn't rest well in my guts.

If it's for the education of our surgeons and med students, then by all means, record the operation and let those who need to know view it. It really isn't something suitable for public consumption.

*Well, it's also a publicity stunt for the medical center. Not unheard of, to help raise awareness, to promote interest in medicine, and to raise funds. the documentary channels here do that frequently.
the problem is, they're doing it live, they're asking for trouble if complications occur.

*I'm concerned that this may mark the beginning of a series of similar ploys to increase ratings for TV stations at the expense of subjecting patients undergoing surgery to the morbid curiosity of the Malaysian viewers. How would you like having camera crew zooming in while you are being operated upon?

Alos, I believe that this will cross the line of decency of televised broadcasts.

*On the face of it, I think it's fine. Nothing wrong with doing that. Chill.

*Actually it's not that bad, there are freaks out there that like to watch this kind of show, just for knowledge purpose.

I happen to be one of those freaks, it's just like watching a discovery channel for me.

The only issue is to make sure that the parents are giving approval to this, which I believe they did.

I do have some words for live telecast though, which I prefer not to mention at the moment.

*Yea, it'll be one heck of a traumatic thing to witness fatalities in surgeries live.

*heya, dun fret too much bout it! there are laws on protection of privacy and on decency in TV (which is more liberal here in the UK) back home.

on the positive side, it might serve as a catalyst to promote the study of biology(?), or encourage the younger generation to consider being a surgeon! and show the wonder of God's creation - the human body!

credit to u, tho, for voicing out yr concern.
