Something's wrong with this picture. No, make that two things. Can you tell what they are?

I've been away for the past few days at DUMC 2006 Leaders' Summit. Normally I'm not a camp person - I prefer being in a cosy small group than in the midst of a large roaring crowd. But I'm so glad I went. Was refreshed, rejuvenated and in the wonderful company of old friends. And I mean that in both the literal and the figurative sense. There's just something about hanging around people who are loving, mature and wise. Who opened their cosy home and made room in their big generous hearts for me. Thank you so very much, Uncle Pong and Aunty Sally. Am truly, truly blessed.

The Task Force who organised the whole event did an awesome job. We truly enjoyed ourselves and Pastor Daniel gave his heart out in sharing God's vision for the church and led us in a time of reflection about the purpose of our lives.

I was particularly moved to tears by Uncle Fan who shared this morning's devotion in his endearing and simple manner. He reminded us that God works for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose. Then he sang the theme song that his wife and him chose for their wedding years ago. Though he went off-key a few times, he was unabashed. His love and devotion to his wife was unmistakable. More importantly, their love for the church and their friends shone through in this song.

It gave me a glimpse of what a wonderful marriage is all about. It's not about two people looking into each others' eyes all the time. But it's about two people looking and moving towards the same direction - their love for each other, God and for a cause greater than themselves just creates a dynamo that sizzles for years and years - blessing countless of others in that process. I want that. Anything else would be a lacklustre of a marriage.

A tall order perhaps. But when you see that in the lives of your friends, you know that it is not an impossibility. It does require that you do a realistic stock take on yourself to see if you have a vision and purpose for your own life, first and foremost. It requires a commitment to change and to have a loving and teachable heart. And most importantly, it requires an X-ray vision to see the man's heart and not be distracted by the thorns and trappings on the outside. To discern whether a guy is a diamond in the making or a sheep under wolf's clothing.

Will blog more about this topic later. I think it deserves a blog entry of its own, hor?

Till then, take care and thanks for being such caring blog readers. My dad's a-ok now. Am so so blessed by your care and concern. You guys rock!
